Tumor Angiogenesis Factor1

چکیده

Recent evidence from our studies indicates that solid tumor growth is not continuous but that it can be separated into two stages, avascular and vascular. In the avascular stage, tumors remain dormant at diameters of 1 to 2 mm. Further growth is possible only after new capillaries have been elicited from the host and have penetrated the tumor. This capillary proliferation is stimulated by a diffusible factor, tumor angiogenesis factor, released by solid tumors, and by neoplastic cells in culture. The biology and isolation of tumor angiogenesis factor are discussed. Evidence for the mechanism of tumor dor mancy in the absence of angiogenesis will be presented. Therapeutic implications of the inhibition of tumor angi ogenesis will be mentioned briefly.

Clinical/Translational Research Overexpression of VEGF165b, an Inhibitory Splice Variant of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, Leads to Insufficient Angiogenesis in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis

VEGF165b were significantly higher in patients with SSc than in control subjects. Microvascular endothelial cells (MVECs) isolated from SSc skin expressed and released higher levels of VEGF165b than healthy MVECs. Transforming growth factor1 upregulated the expression of VEGF165b and serine/arginine protein 55 in both SSc and healthy MVECs. In SSc MVECs, VEGF receptor-2 was overexpressed, but i...

Modelling Tumor-induced Angiogenesis: Combination of Stochastic Sprout Spacing and Sprout Progression

Background: Angiogenesis initiated by cancerous cells is the process by which new blood vessels are formed to enhance oxygenation and growth of tumor. Objective: In this paper, we present a new multiscale mathematical model for the formation of a vascular network in tumor angiogenesis process. Methods: Our model couples an improved sprout spacing model as a stochastic mathematical model of spro...

Two Dimensional Mathematical Model of Tumor Angiogenesis: Coupling of Avascular Growth and Vascularization

Introduction As a tumor grows, the demand for oxygen and nutrients increases and it grows further if acquires the ability to induce angiogenesis. In this study, we aimed to present a two-dimensional continuous mathematical model for avascular tumor growth, coupled with a discrete model of angiogenesis. Materials and Methods In the avascular growth model, tumor is considered as a single mass, wh...

Changing Roles of Matrix Metalloproteases and Their Inhibitors, TIMPs, During Tumor Progression and Angiogenesis

Inhibition of matrix-metalloproteinases (MMPs) by tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) has been shown in vivo to decrease metastasis and tumor-associated angiogenesis. Our laboratory is interested in understanding the role of these proteins at the pericellular microenvironment of tumor and endothelial cells. Secretion of MMPs by tumor cells enables the migration, invasion and metasta...
